It seems like a lot of people have been waiting for the day Tay and I would get engaged, so for your reading and viewing pleasure, here’s how it happened!
I had been bugging Taylor all week about making reservations to a wine tasting event. I wanted to make sure that we definitely had seats because I wasn’t missing out because the event we had heard about several times. So he finally confirmed that we had a table reserved with a handful of friends and a colleague of Taylor’s (who is a member of the wine group already). After work on Thursday, June 26th, we had a few hours to kill time before the tasting started, so we were just looking up vacation ideas in his office. He was complaining that he didn’t feel really well, so I told him he could go home. I gave him a bit of a hard time too saying, “You’re just nervous about going to drink wine.” See, I’m the wine drinker and he’s not, but I knew he was humoring me and my interests by agreeing to go. We finally got there and settled in with our friends. Here’s our table. From left to right, Taylor’s sister Sarah, Taylor, Me, Cherrye, and Brooke.
We ate fruit, cheese and appetizers. We tasted some wines that were buttery, and some that were spicy. We all laughed, and talked and had such a fun time. And at the end of the night they gave away door prize bottles of wine. Cherrye won a bottle and so did I.
Then, so did Taylor. Our table, full of first time attendees, swept the door prize drawings. I was kind of jealous that Tay won the sparkling wine. I don’t know why, I’d get to drink it anyway!
When he got back to our table from picking up his prize, he asked me to stand up with him. I thought it was strange that he wanted me to take a picture of him with his wine, but we were picture taking fools that night so it didn’t see that out of place. Once I stood up, he started making the announcement. You can see the point at which I finally figured out what was going on in this video clip…
I cried and he cried. And I said yes. And everyone around clapped and cheered for us. And apparently everyone at the table knew it was going to happen, except for me. That’s why they were so photo taking crazy. Of course my camera batteries were going dead…I wasn’t expecting a proposal or I would have made sure they were charged up. 🙂 Luckily, Sarah and Cherrye had their cameras ready to go and got plenty of good pictures and the video. We’re going to keep the bottle of champagne for a special occasion.
I know you’re wondering about the ring. It’s so beautiful too. Check it out…
No, we don’t have a date set yet, but it will be before the end of 2009. Don’t worry though, we’ll keep you posted!
That is the best thing I’ve seen all day! I am actually sitting at my computer with tears in my eyes! Congrats! I can’t wait to hear all about it.
