cheap skincare

I have had some issues with my skin over the years.

pimples + oiliness + dryness + redness = nothing you can buy at the store that covers all those things.

One thing I have found that surprisingly works is a homemade scrub. You can watch the video here, or just follow the recipe. (Also, Michelle Phan, the girl who made the video, has TONS of other fun makeup and skin care videos, including make your own nose strips!)

Olive Oil Honey Scrub
1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey

Mix it all together in a small container. It’ll keep for several weeks.

I use it after I wash my makeup off, a couple nights a week (when I remember) and it really seems to help more than any other store-bought scrubs. You just gently massage it on your face for about 1 minute. I use a little warm water to thin it out so it’s not too rough. Then rinse it off with warm water. I don’t  usually use moisturizer afterward, because there is still just enough olive oil left on my skin. And since I use it at night, I’m not trying to put makeup over it or anything.

Apparently, honey has properties that kill bacteria which is good for pimples! The olive oil is moisturizing but doesn’t clog pores. And the sugar of course, good for scrubbing.

The best part is it’s cheap, and you probably have everything in your pantry at home.

Try it out and see what you think.
